Founder of ASEC to speak at 26th World Energy Congress
The event which is set to come off in Rotterdam, Netherlands
will span across 22nd to 25th of April 2024 where each
day is dedicated to a series of sessions focused on key areas that bridge
sectors, geographies, generations and systems to make faster, fairer, and more
far-reaching energy transitions happen.
Within the period, Ing. Ohene-Akoto who is also a board
member, FEL at the World Energy Council will be part of a panel discussion on
the topic, "Energy for 2 billion people: Want more, waste no?". He
will be joined by some stakeholders in the African energy sector including
Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil),
Nigeria, H E. Didier Budimbu Ntubuanga, Minister of Hydrocarbons, DRC, H.E. Dr.
Eng. Sultan Welle, Energy Development State Minister, Ethiopia, Sharon Yeti,
Co-Founder & CEO, PowerLive, Zimbabwe and H. E. Dr. Omar Farouk, Regional
Vice Chair Africa, World Energy Council, and Secretary-General, African
Petroleum Producers (APPO)
Subsequently, the ASEC founder
will also spearhead a sustainable energy & climate role-play negotiation
simulation.
He is also billed to deliver the welcome remarks for a session dubbed, “Skills Gap for Energy Transition Readiness: An Intergenerational Expert Roundtable" organized by the World Energy Council’s Future Energy Leaders on Thursday 25th April 2024. He hopes his presence at this event will drive partnerships for his outfit.
“Surely with my representation and taking the main stage in this august event, ASEC has a strong voice. We are looking to partner with like-minded and big-hearted individuals and corporations who will buy into our vision of building an Africa where energy access, adequacy, reliability, security, affordability, and sustainability will be successfully achieved to the extent that we will become a model and a beacon of hope for the rest of the world,” he said.
Ing. Ohene-Akoto joins about 5000 international energy
delegates and stakeholders who will be attending the annual event geared at
shaping conversations around the responsible use of energy and reaching net
zero. It is the most prestigious and influential global event, hosted at the
highest political level and welcomes leaders from across the globe. This year’s
congress is a landmark event as it celebrates 100 years of the Council’s
existence and since the first World Energy Congress was held.
These four days of industry-defining activities will cover
the entire energy ecosystem, from producers to suppliers, even to the end
consumer. With over 60 immersive and interactive sessions designed to generate
new thinking, and facilitate conversations and connections while driving
practical solutions, this year’s congress is one to look forward to.
The overarching theme for this
year’s congress is “Redesigning energy for people and planet” which
makes energy safety a critical talking point. Thus, provides a perfect platform
for ASEC to learn and share their concerns on sustainable energy at the highest
level where key stakeholders and even policymakers will be present. Since the
event seeks to discuss feasible solutions and recommendations to redesign
energy for people and the planet, is in sync with ASEC’s vision as
an organisation.
The World Energy Congress has for 100 years leveraged the
power of collective action to drive change through the world energy community.
This year's congress will drive innovation, idea exchange and sharing of best practices by bringing together around 5,000 delegates and 18,000 total attendees, including up to 70 Ministers and 250 C-suite speakers over four days.

About Justice Ohene-Akoto
Ing. Justice Ohene-Akoto is a multiple award-winning
Ghanaian Inventor and Professional Engineer. He is the Founder of the Africa
Sustainable Energy Centre (ASEC) and a Senior Advisor at J. P. Partners &
Associates. He serves as a Board Member, FEL at the World Energy Council. He is
a Research Fellow at Penn Sustainability, University of Pennsylvania. He was
the Ariel Foundation International (AFI) representative at the United Nations
Office in Vienna (UNOV).
In July 2021, he won the Best Student Paper Award at the World Congress on
Engineering 2021 held in London, United Kingdom. Ing. Ohene-Akoto was crowned
Rising Star in Ghana's Energy sector at the Ghana Energy Awards 2020. In the
same year, he emerged as a Forty Under 40 Achiever at the Forty Under 40 Awards
2020.
He is the National Vice-President of the World Energy Council's Future Energy
Leaders Ghana and a former Electrical Engineer at the Volta Aluminium Company
Limited.
As a former member of the Chamber of Independent Power Producers, Distributors
and Bulk Consumers, Ghana, an industry player and researcher in the academia,
he helps bridge the gap between these sectors. He owns several innovation
patents which include patents in Electric Vehicles and Corona Virus
Transmission Prevention systems with the Australian and German Governments
respectively. He has served as a member of the technical committee, reviewer,
keynote speaker, consultant and chair for several international conferences and
reports. He has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and
international conferences.
Ing. Ohene-Akoto was a keen member of the Ghana task force that historically
launched Future Energy Leaders (FEL) Ghana in 2017 at the Ghana Energy Commission
where he served as the Director of Public Relations till 2018 when he became
the National Vice-President.
He is finishing a third master's degree in Electrical Engineering in an Ivy
League Institution, University of Pennsylvania. The engineer boasts of a Master
of Business Administration from the University of South Wales, UK, a Master of
Philosophy in Power Systems Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of
Science & Technology, a Bachelor of
Science in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the KNUST and is a
certified Project Manager by PMI.
Ing. Ohene-Akoto belongs to the International Association of Engineers (IAENG)
and the Project Management Institute (PMI).
